| New Design Birth Certificate Release
The Vital Statistics Council for Canada (VSCC) is pleased to announce the new design for the birth certificate used by most Canadian provinces and territories.
"The work of the Council has included a number of important efforts relating to standards for the enhancement of the security of foundation identity documents, specifically birth certificates. This includes the design of the blank certificate stock used by most jurisdictions," stated Elizabeth Crowley Meagher, Chair of the Council.
"With new developments in technology and emerging threats related to identity theft, tampering and counterfeiting, the Council recognized the need to update the standard document design in an effort to ensure document integrity, reliability and public confidence," she said.
Working with experts in document security, Canadian vital statistics experts have created a design that includes new security features visible to the eye as well as the use of a more durable material - polymer (plastic).
The Council is an association of vital statistics experts from across Canada with a mandate to develop, strengthen and support the Canadian system of vital statistics. Each Canadian province and territory is represented by a member of the Council as well as Statistics Canada.
"Security and integrity are values all member jurisdictions share," commented Ms. Crowley Meagher.
